Newline fleet tracking

PHPNewline fleet tracking brings vehicle movements, delivery schedules and operational updates into one place. Designed for fleets of trucks and commercial vehicles, it helps transport teams coordinate just-in-time deliveries and exchange delivery information with customers and logistics partners.

PHP · Fleet management · Just-in-time delivery · EDI integration

The challenge

Time-sensitive deliveries depend on knowing where vehicles are, how journeys are progressing and whether a delivery window is at risk. When tracking information, dispatch schedules and customer systems operate separately, transport teams must spend time chasing updates and entering the same information more than once.

The project brings these processes together, giving dispatchers a clear view of fleet activity and a consistent way to communicate delivery progress.

The solution

A PHP-based web application combines GPS tracking information with delivery schedules and electronic data interchange (EDI). Dispatchers can monitor vehicles, review delivery milestones and identify exceptions that need attention.

The system supports the journey from dispatch through arrival and delivery confirmation, connecting operational events with the information required by customer and partner systems.

Key Features

  • Fleet visibility - Display vehicle locations, journey status and recent tracking activity on an interactive map.
  • Delivery scheduling - Associate vehicles and drivers with jobs, destinations and agreed delivery windows.
  • Just-in-time coordination - Compare journey progress and estimated arrival times against delivery schedules, highlighting potential delays.
  • EDI integration - Exchange agreed shipment, delivery-status and receipt messages with customer and logistics systems.
  • Geofence events - Record entry to and departure from depots, collection points and delivery locations.
  • Exception alerts - Flag late arrivals, unexpected stops and missing tracking updates for dispatcher review.
  • Delivery records - Maintain a history of movements, milestones and delivery confirmations.
  • Reporting - Summarise punctuality, vehicle activity and delivery exceptions to support operational review.

Technologies

  • PHP and Laravel - application logic, operational workflows and integration services.
  • MariaDB - vehicle, journey, delivery and audit records.
  • JavaScript and Leaflet - interactive maps and fleet-status displays.
  • GPS telematics APIs - vehicle positions and tracking events.
  • EDI messaging and REST APIs - exchange of shipment and delivery information.
  • Redis and background queues - processing tracking updates, messages and notifications.
  • Docker and Linux - application deployment and hosting.
