The Dog House - Booking and Daily Operations System

Ruby on RailsA bespoke booking and daily operations system for The Dog House, bringing dog boarding, training stays and puppy-course administration into one web application. The system combines owner and dog records with a staff booking calendar, transport planning, accommodation allocation and practical daily reports.

Looking after visiting dogs involves more than reserving dates. Staff need to know which animals are arriving, who requires collection, where each dog is staying, and which feeding and care instructions apply throughout the day.

Built with Ruby on Rails, the application supports owner accounts, dog profiles, booking enquiries and the information required for a stay. Staff can view provisional and confirmed bookings by month, week or list, create bookings directly from the calendar, and record arrival and departure arrangements.

Daily reports provide a shared view of bookings and accommodation, alongside a van collection and return run sheet. Staff can arrange and save the stop sequence, check addresses and handover notes, and print the run sheet for the driver. The sequence is staff-planned rather than an automatically optimised driving route.

The accommodation report groups dogs by area and room, crate or bed, highlighting unallocated places and shared units for review. A separate feeding and care sheet records morning, noon, afternoon and evening instructions, with space for daily sign-off.

The reports are available on screen and in print-friendly layouts, including browser Save as PDF. Their structure was informed by the client’s existing accommodation and feeding sheets, keeping familiar working practices while bringing them into the booking system.
